Review: "Soul Surfer"

Film And DVD Reviews by Phil Boatwright

Just a little over a year ago I was invited to Hawaii by Tri-Star Pictures to see scenes filmed of Soul Surfer, the dramatized life of Bethany Hamilton. You may recall, at the age of thirteen, Bethany lost her arm to a shark and, who, despite the tragedy, has since become a world class surfer. While lodged at the Turtle Bay Inn on the North Shore, I met the cast and crew, as well as Bethany and her devoutly Christian family. Sweeeet.

Is Christianity a Copycat Religion?

As a college freshman, I read an ancient non-biblical story about a crucified god who was born of a virgin, who had twelve disciples, was considered a great teacher, promised his followers immortality, and rose from the dead after three days. The similarities to Christianity seemed too great to be coincidental. To be honest, it unsettled my faith a bit. Did the founders of Christianity copy from an ancient pagan mystery religion?

My name is Sharon and I am thrilled to be living in South East Asia. I am working as a teacher and a mentor, desiring to see people experience hope in Jesus Christ.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

There is something catchy and memorable about these familiar phrases from Paul’s pen. The imagery of the verse is so clear and the words are so well written that I think many of us could rattle it off without having consciously memorized it. I even know a song that goes with the words (which is now stuck in my head!) The verse is definitely an inspiration to perseverance in faith, but do we really understand what it means to “persevere”?

Mandisa continues to be a voice of encouragement and truth to women facing life's challenges.

She returns with her new album What If We Were Real on April 5th. Featuring the new single "Stronger", the album's theme centres around the masks that each of us wear every day. Mandisa shares that her new record is "all about taking the masks off, and really letting the world see that we as Christians, It doesn't mean we don't go through difficult times, doesn't mean that things are always great in our lives. It simply means we have a relationship with the Saviour who is able to bring us joy and peace in the middle of our difficult times."

At the age of 12 - a time when most young girls are just beginning idyllic dreams of "what I want to be" - a young Australian girl prayed a simple prayer. "God, I give you my gifts. Use my life to make a difference and change the world."

Rebecca St. James has since taken an unparalleled course in Christian music. As the industry's innovative "new voice" as a teen in the mid-90's, she blazed a trail in the contemporary Christian genre for many other talented female artists to come. She has received countless industry awards, including the prestigious GRAMMY®, garnered number one singles and has consistently topped both radio and sales charts, with career album sales in the millions.

"My Brain Says Stop But My Heart Says Go" claims FM Static

Anytime an album prompts listeners to jump in their car, crank up the stereo, hit cruise control, roll down the windows and sing-a-long loud and proud, it's pretty much considered a sure fire winner. And that's exactly the ethos behind FM Static's fourth long player, My Brain Says Stop, But My Heart Says Go (Tooth & Nail Records), which finds primary figureheads Trevor McNevan and Steve Augustine (both of Thousand Foot Krutch fame) turning in its most melodic, memorable and meaningful album to date that will make it feel like summer outside no matter what the season.

Review: "Ridge Racer 3D" - Nintendo 3DS

Reviewed by Paul for FamilyFriendlyGaming

SCORE: 92/100

People have told me that I sound so disinterested in some of my interviews, and many of my reviews are clinical. Part of that comes from seeing so many video games. So often there is little new in games that come out. There are always stand out titles. But I have to wade through many games that are ho-hum. I am always looking for the positive, and I have learned to keep my emotions in check.
